CARLOS SANTANA SHOE COLLECTION launches in MACY'S WEST; portion of proceeds to benefit milagro foundation
ST. LOUIS, February 20, 2001 – Rock 'n Roll Hall of Famer Carlos Santana steps into the women's shoe business this week to launch "Carlos," a line of shoes that radiates rhythm, passion, and energy … and benefits children of the world as well. The line, available at select Macy's West stores, is a collaborative effort between the legendary guitarist and Brown Shoe Company, best known for its Naturalizer and Buster Brown brands.
The "Carlos" collection of women's footwear features 13 styles ranging from dressy to casual, all reflecting the same vibrant spirit generated by Carlos Santana's music. The shoes resonate with color, interesting materials, and multicultural influences. At prices of $59 to $70 per pair, these shoes rock!

A portion of the proceeds from each sale will go to the Milagro Foundation. Started in 1998 by Carlos and Deborah Santana, the foundation supports educational efforts to help children throughout the world live healthy, literate and culturally enriched lives.
"The people at Brown Shoe Company connected with my vision," Carlos Santana said. "This shoe line will help thousands of children through our Milagro Foundation. We believe that life is a miracle (milagro) and that children everywhere deserve the opportunity to lead safe, healthy, and educationally creative lives," he said.
In California, Carlos by Carlos Santana will be available at 17 Macy's West stores including stores in Los Angeles, San Francisco, San Diego, San Jose, Salinas, Fresno and Modesto. The footwear also debuts at Macy's West stores in Las Vegas, San Antonio, Tucson and Mesa (AZ), and four Burdines department stores in the greater Miami area.
"We're thrilled to be a partner in this exciting launch of fabulous shoes by an artist who is not only inspiring as a musician, but is inspirational and humane as a person as well," said Helen Reed, SVP/GMM Center Core, Macy's West. "We expect Carlos footwear to be a hit with the many women who love Santana's music and respect him for his commitment to helping children throughout the world."
